House prices have fallen by 6.3 per cent year-on-year to June, according to the Nationwide Building society. There is less demand in the housing market, leading to the further decline in prices and reducing the incentive for developers to build new houses.

Taylor Wimpey has acknowledged the economic downturn, which it said is severely limiting the financial potential of new build properties.

Research by the Building Societies Association (BSA), showed 27 per cent of Britain’s think now is a good time to buy property. A significant proportion of respondents, said that expected future falls, in house prices are a reason not to buy.
