Editor’s Letter After years of easy money and sustained house price increases, this period of ‘cooling-off’ comes as a welcome relief to first-time buyers. It’s taken a little while to get here, but now that it is here we are quickly prospective home buyers to do their homework. Developers are increasingly offering special deals to help first-time buyer’s step onto the housing ladder this summer at their new developments throughout the UK. Prospective purchasers are being targeted with incentives and customised initiatives to suit their individual needs.
Tina Dedman, Regional Sales and Marketing Director, at George Wimpey said, "Many first-time buyers are falling into a trap of thinking they can't afford to buy a home in the current property climate and continue to spend a large proportion of their income on rent".
"We offer a range of initiatives to make home-ownership easy for first-time buyers, even if they have no deposit to put down." Most economists are unsure when the housing market will turn the corner, but they all agree that house prices will settle down in the short to medium term. In the meantime, house builders are locked into building projects that have their own momentum, best described as ‘down tools.’ With the continual slow down, fewer homes than expected will come to the market place this year, but hopefully will present mortgage lenders with an excellent opportunity to start offering sensible packages to first-time buyers. The UK economy needs these homes built, so it is essential that builders and developers keep doing what they are best at, providing homes at an affordable price.
