Editor’s Letter In a week where the financial markets and banks around the world have experienced another roller coaster ride, it as become further apparent the true extent which the credit crunch is having. Many countries are now falling victim to its rippling devastating symptoms, weakening further housing markets. President George W Bush has said that legislators will "rise to the occasion" and pass the Wall Street rescue plan. In a statement he said there were still disagreements because, "The proposal is big and the reason it's big, is because it's a big problem" Opponents of President Bush proposals want a government-backed insurance policy to cover the huge amounts of bad debt built up by US banks. Democrats meanwhile want to secure limits to payments for executives of failed banks and ensure there is adequate help for struggling US homeowners. It is often said “When America sneezes, Britain catches a cold.” In other words, Britain is not financially immune to what happens in the United States. People need to bear in mind; the credit crunch is like ‘a cold’ that requires treatment. If it is allowed to continue without treatment, the cold not only will persist, but it will also begin to have devastating consequences on other parts of your body. Similarly, not everyone likes the taste of medicine but its effect is beneficial. Tough decisions by governments and business leaders are needed to counteract the impact of the credit crunch and eventually safeguard our financial institutions from collapse. This intervention will prove to be a turning point, removing a huge amount of systemic risk from the global financial system. It is hoped, financial stability will return thus encouraging mortgage products to become more readily available. The years 2007 and 2008 will be remembered by many people living now and future generations to come. The history lesson will be entitled ‘What years and how did homes and banks became repossessed?’ Myfirsthomeltd team hope you will enjoy making your way through our newsletter as much as we do, thus contributing to making home hunting easier, enjoyable and rewarding.
