With the spotlight continuing to focus on the mortgage market, the current weakness in the housing market is still largely confidence driven. The current downward pressure on house prices will only start to be reversed once there is a turnaround in buyer confidence, the timing of which is difficult to predict but will revolve around greater stability in the financial markets and an improved economic outlook.

According to research by BDRC, 40 per cent of homeowners (aged 45+) have offered to assist their children with the deposit required to buying their new home. Mark Long, Client Services Director, said,

Clearly many potential first time buyers are simply not making adequate financial plans to be in a position to afford a home-either because they can’t afford to, or because they don’t care.”

We welcome new Housing Minister Margaret Beckett proposals to press ahead with building of eco-towns, which will provide more affordable housing for people to rent and buy.

Myfirsthomeltd team hope you will enjoy making your way through our newsletter as much as we do, thus contributing to making home hunting easier, enjoyable and rewarding.
