Editor’s Letter The Property Industry and first time buyers welcomes the appointment of new Housing Minister, Margaret Beckett and is in support of her strategy by encouraging everyone within the housing market ‘to get on with the job at hand. The government is standing by its housing targets despite the downturn, and mortgage market challenges. We have to remember that with the aging population, supply and demand issues still to be addressed and the objective to reduce the UK overall carbon emissions. The government’s goals are still essential, only that the time needed to achieve them will undoubtedly need to be extended. The Housing Minister stated that the government must adjust to changing circumstances more swiftly and be prepared to work with the property industry in providing suitable solutions, and maintaining capacity so that it could respond when the market recovers. Margaret Beckett said, “It is both our interest (government and industry’s) to work towards these objectives, but there is no sense in being dogmatic about how we get there. We have to be adaptable. There is something to be said about making a virtue out of necessity.” Myfirsthomeltd team hope you will enjoy making your way through our newsletter as much as we do, thus contributing to making home hunting easier, enjoyable and rewarding.
